ICSE or CBSE. Does it matter for learning at home?
At Class 2, much less than the arguments suggest. Place value is place value. Regrouping is regrouping. Both boards ask a seven-year-old to read three-digit numbers and to compare two weights, and a child who understands one understands the other. What differs is the order they are taught in and the words the chapter is given. Caldra is built on the concept, and the board is the order it is served in.
The concept is the unit
Caldra's map is not a syllabus. It is a graph of concepts: counting to ninety-nine, place value to hundreds, subtraction with borrowing. What a lesson teaches is one of those. A board is then an ordered list over that graph: this many, in this sequence, at this class.
That is why a board change does not mean rewriting the teaching. It means writing a second order over the same lessons.
Why ICSE first
Because one child had to go first, and the founder's son is in ICSE Class 2. The whole of the Class 2 chapter structure in Caldra is the Council's own text, read off their own printed curriculum, chapter names and all. That is also why the ICSE pages can tell you exactly where you stand: the structure came from the board, and the state of each chapter comes from the lessons.
If you are a CBSE family
CBSE comes later. Not soon, later. We are not going to give you a month. What is true today is that a CBSE Class 2 child working through Caldra's maths would meet the same concepts in a different order, under ICSE chapter names. Some families are fine with that. If you are not, wait for us, and say so in an email so the demand is counted.
When the board does start to matter
Later, and genuinely. By the secondary years the boards diverge on depth, on what is assumed and on how a subject is split. At Class 2 the difference is mostly the cover of the book.
What is not there
There is no CBSE ordering in Caldra today. No state board either. There is one board, ICSE, and one class inside it with signed lessons, Class 2.
If your child is CBSE and in Class 2, the trial will tell you within a week whether the order bothers you. It costs nothing and there is no card.
