My child can't read yet. How can any app teach them?
Most of them cannot, and it is worth saying why. An app that teaches by putting words on a screen needs a reader before it can teach reading, which is the wrong way round. Caldra does not put the teaching in text. Your child taps once and talks, and Caldra talks back. Nothing your child has to do requires reading a single word.
One tap, then talking
There is one thing to press and it is large and it is always in the same place. After that it is a conversation. Caldra asks, your child answers out loud, Caldra picks up what they said and goes on from there. A child who cannot read can do the whole of that unaided.
What she draws
On some lessons Caldra draws on the screen while she explains: a shape being folded, tens being grouped. The drawing supports the talking; it never replaces it, and a child who ignores the screen entirely still gets the lesson.
Honestly: not every lesson has a drawing yet. Roughly half of the lessons written so far have one bound, and every one of them records the moments the picture does not yet enact. We would rather say that than let you picture something richer than it is.
Asks land on what the child can already do
Caldra never asks a child to do something the moment cannot support. It will not ask a pre-reader to read a word off the screen, and it will not ask for anything to be typed. The ask is always something your child can answer by speaking.
Where letters and sounds actually stand
The LKG and UKG chapters exist in Caldra's map of the ICSE years, including the language and literacy strands. No lesson is signed for them yet, which means Caldra will talk with your LKG child but it will not teach them phonics to a plan.
At Class 2, the reading chapter has two signed lessons and they are comprehension lessons: what a story says, and who and what and where it happened. Phonics at Class 2 is mapped and not written.
If your child is four or five
Then Caldra is not ready to teach them, and the trial will show you that within a week. There is no signed lesson at LKG or UKG. What there is, is a tutor that will talk with them, and a map of what it will teach when the lessons are written.
